Geotechnical Engineer

They are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to lead challenging projects and provide technical oversight! 

Remote / WFH / Hybrid: This position offers a hybrid/remote work arrangement, allowing you to live in or relocate to the Kootenays.

Travel: <5% 

Fieldwork: 30% (within driving distance)

Salary: $110,000 to $140,000 (plus x1.5 overtime, health benefits performance bonuses, annual cost of living increases, RRSP contributions, etc)

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct geotechnical assessments for residential and commercial building foundations, retaining wall design, soil and rock anchor design, etc.
  • Perform terrain and slope stability assessments.
  • Handle municipal pavement design.
  • Supervise subsurface geotechnical drilling, test pit excavations, and logging.
  • Conduct natural geohazard and steep slope assessments for building permit applications.
  • Perform river hydrology and hydraulics evaluations.
  • Engage in mine planning/engineering, including pit/quarry design, sediment pond design, and ore/soil stockpile design.
  • Handle hydrogeology tasks.
  • Manage and monitor projects.
  • Provide peer mentoring.
  • Offer professional engineer consulting services to industry, government, agency, and NGO clients for various engineering and environmental projects.
  • Design conceptual bridges for forestry, municipal, and highway structures.
  • Prepare technical documents such as feasibility studies, concept design, detailed design, and design criteria reports.
  • Conduct technical QA/QC review of designs, reports, proposals, and communications prepared by staff and/or subcontractors.
  • Contribute to expressions of interest (EOI), requests for proposal (RFP), requests for qualifications (RFQ), and tender responses, as well as scope of work proposals.
  • Collaborate with other project leaders on all aspects of project management, including budget development and monitoring, time and cost tracking, client and regulatory communication, reporting, and invoice preparation.
  • Engage in marketing and business development activities.
Requirements:
  • Holds a BSc or MSc in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering from a recognized academic institution.
  • Has 10+ years of practical field and design experience; previous consulting experience is advantageous.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC), or eligible for immediate registration.
  • Familiar with government legislation and policies related to geotechnical engineering.
  • Experienced in liaising with regulators, First Nations, and other key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates leadership and mentorship abilities with junior and intermediate technical staff.
  • Exhibits excellent customer service skills and enjoys engaging with clients and stakeholders.
  • Capable of efficiently fulfilling the job responsibilities outlined.
  • Crew and team leadership experience is desirable.
  • Possesses a valid Driver's License.
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, and AutoCAD would be advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
