Environmental Scientist - Contaminated Sites

They are seeking an Environmental Scientist specializing in Contaminated Sites. The ideal candidate should possess expertise in environmental site assessments (Phase II and ESAs), remediation, and risk assessment. Someone adept at managing medium to large-scale municipal infrastructure-related projects and familiar with Alberta’s regulatory processes, applying them across various client sectors. The role involves working in a dynamic team environment, actively contributing to a diverse range of intriguing and challenging projects in both project management and technical support capacities.

Location: Edmonton, AB (Hybrid)

Travel: 20% - 50% (within Edmonton and some travel)

Salary: $80,000 - $125,000 DOE, including benefits, pension plan, overtime.

Responsibilities:
  • Preparing proposals and managing projects.
  • Designing and implementing contaminant assessment-based projects for municipal infrastructure.
  • Providing project related regulatory advice.
  • Supporting preparation of tender specifications and special provisions.
  • Administering contracts, construction monitoring, and submittal reviews.
  • Generating project work and maintaining client relationships in the municipal sector.
  • Contributing to multi-disciplinary and complex projects.
  • Supporting the development of the team and mentoring staff.
Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree (B.Sc.) in a relevant pure or applied science; graduate degree (M.Sc.) preferred.
  • 8 - 12+ years' post-graduation experience in environmental consulting specific to managing contaminated sites and risk assessments for municipal infrastructure and linear projects.
  • Strong project management and client relationship skills. 
  • Professional registration (or eligibility for registration) and in good standing with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or related (e.g. P.Ag).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines within a team environment.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Comprehensive understanding of provincial regulations (e.g., Alberta Tier 1 and 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines, Alberta Contaminated Sites Policy Framework). 
  • Subsoil Salinity Tool certification is an asset. 
  • Valid driver's licence.
