My client is a niche environmental consulting firm specializing in environmental impact assessments, project permitting and management, regulatory engagement, Indigenous stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance. While their primary focus is on the mining and mineral exploration sector, they also support projects in renewables, heavy industrial, transportation, and construction. They lead permitting and regulatory affairs for numerous projects and are currently seeking a
Reclamation and Closure Specialist.
The ideal candidate for this position will have expertise in leading reclamation and closure applications for environmental assessments and permit applications, as well as supporting ongoing site compliance with reclamation-related permit conditions. This role involves engaging directly with clients, collaborating with technical experts, and managing subconsultants. Experience in designing research frameworks, interpreting data, and authoring management plans is a valuable asset. Familiarity with reclamation liability cost estimation, whether through supporting or leading such estimates, is beneficial. Key job requirements include strong technical writing skills in English and effective communication and project management skills to successfully execute multi-disciplinary projects.
Remote / WFH / Hybrid: 100% Remote anywhere in Canada
Salary: $90k - $140k with benefits, RRSP matching, bonuses
Travel: Minimal, Site visits anywhere in North America
Responsibilities:
- Project Support: Ability to work effectively within a remote team, collaborating closely with senior staff and project managers.
- Health and Safety: Experience in preparing for and conducting site visits and fieldwork with a focus on health and safety protocols.
- Report and Proposal Writing: Proficiency in drafting reports and proposals for various project needs.
- Environmental Management Plans: Experience in writing and executing environmental management plans.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Ability to contribute to innovative and collaborative multidisciplinary projects.
- Mentorship: Capacity to mentor staff in skills related to reclamation and research.
Requirements:
- Education: B.Sc./M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences with a focus on restoration and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the resource industry, or B.Eng./M.Eng. in mining, environmental, or geotechnical engineering with 5+ years of experience in the mining industry, including closure planning.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of regulatory requirements in the mining industry.
- Professional Registration: Registered professional or eligible for immediate registration, with reclamation listed as a key area of competency.
- Liability Cost Estimation: Experience with reclamation liability cost estimation is beneficial.
- Willingness to Learn: Openness to expanding expertise in reclamation planning, research design, and the application of innovative technologies.
