Reclamation Ecologist (Soil & Veg)

I am looking for a Reclamation Ecologist (Soil & Veg) to lead environmental programs, drive project execution, and deliver high-quality technical insights that support infrastructure projects across all phases. Your expertise in soil science and ecology will be instrumental in designing and overseeing studies, managing multidisciplinary projects, and ensuring compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations, including ALC processes.

This role offers a hybrid work model with minimal travel, allowing you to collaborate with a team of experienced scientists and biologists dedicated to innovative, science-driven solutions. Remote / WFH / Hybrid: Hybrid

Travel: Minimal travel, seasonal fieldwork <20%

Salary: $75k - $90k CAD, with benefits, RRSP matching, etc (The final salary will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations. Candidates who exceed these requirements or bring additional value to the team may receive a salary outside the specified range.)

Key Performance Objectives

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Lead the design, planning, and implementation of soil and ecological studies, ensuring scientifically rigorous and regulatory-compliant methodologies.
  • Oversee multi-disciplinary infrastructure and environmental projects, ensuring alignment with budget, schedule, and project objectives.
  • Proactively manage project risks and challenges, delivering solutions that balance environmental integrity with client goals.
  • Ensure seamless coordination between clients, colleagues, contractors, and regulatory agencies to keep projects on track and aligned with compliance requirements.

Technical Oversight & Senior Review

  • Review and refine high-quality technical reports, workplans, and proposals, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and strategic alignment with project objectives.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in soil capability assessments, agricultural land classification, riparian and crop interfaces, soil amendments, and ALC applications.
  • Lead study design, field assessment, statistical analysis, and data interpretation, setting best practices for soil and ecological research in applied consulting.
  • Maintain a high standard of scientific integrity, ensuring that all deliverables meet or exceed regulatory and client expectations.

Regulatory Approvals & Compliance

  • Lead the navigation of municipal, provincial, and federal approval processes, including Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) applications.
  • Engage proactively with regulatory agencies, clients, and Indigenous groups, ensuring transparent communication and alignment with project goals.
  • Anticipate and adapt to evolving regulations, ensuring projects remain compliant while identifying opportunities for innovative environmental solutions.

Client & Business Development

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with industry, government, and Indigenous clients, fostering long-term partnerships.
  • Lead and support business development efforts, including proposal writing, client engagement, and strategic planning for new project opportunities.
  • Position the company as a leader in soil and ecological consulting, contributing to growth through thought leadership and client collaboration.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor and train junior and intermediate staff, fostering technical growth and professional development.
  • Provide leadership in project execution and consulting best practices, ensuring high-quality work across all project phases.
  • Support internal knowledge sharing, helping the team stay ahead of industry trends and regulatory changes.
