Environmental Manager - FIFO - Fly In/Fly Out

My client is a Canadian mining company advancing a major gold development project in the Yukon is seeking an Environmental Manager to lead site environmental compliance and governance as the project transitions from advanced exploration toward construction and early operations.

Reporting to the Vice President, Environment and Permitting, this role will oversee the implementation of environmental management systems, regulatory compliance programs, and monitoring initiatives that support responsible project development. The Environmental Manager will lead the environmental team on site, coordinate with regulators and Indigenous communities, and ensure environmental commitments are fully integrated into construction and operational planning.

This is a Fly In / Fly Out camp-based position supporting one of Canada’s most significant new gold developments in northern Canada.

​​​​​​Remote / WFH / Hybrid: FIFO (Can be located anywhere in Western Canada, BC or YK preferred)

Travel:  8 / 6 Rotational FIFO

Salary: $150k - $190k DOE, plus health benefits, RRSP matching (Final salary will reflect each candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations, as well as the overall value they bring to the role.)

Role Scope:
​​​​​​The Environmental Manager will be responsible for establishing and leading the environmental governance framework for the project, ensuring that all site activities comply with regulatory approvals, environmental management plans, and corporate environmental standards. The role combines technical environmental oversight, regulatory leadership, and team management to ensure environmental risks are proactively managed while maintaining strong relationships with regulators and Indigenous communities. Including:

Environmental Management System Governance
Establish and operationalize a robust Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned with regulatory approvals, corporate environmental standards, and site environmental performance targets.
  • Implementing and maintaining EMS procedures and governance frameworks
  • Integrating permit conditions and environmental commitments into site systems
  • Establishing environmental KPIs and compliance monitoring systems
  • Ensuring environmental risks are identified, communicated, and proactively managed
Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
  • Ensure the project maintains full compliance with federal and territorial environmental legislation and permit conditions.
  • Reviewing and approving regulatory submissions, including quarterly, annual, and permit-required reports
  • Leading site engagement with regulators during inspections, audits, and technical meetings
  • Maintaining strong relationships with regulatory agencies and supporting transparent communication
  • Ensuring regulatory risks are identified early and mitigation strategies are implemented
Environmental Program Development and Oversight
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental monitoring and management programs that support project construction and operations and ensuring monitoring programs are scientifically robust, compliant with permit conditions, and integrated into project planning and construction schedules.
This includes oversight of programs related to:
  • Water quality and aquatic monitoring
  • Air quality and emissions monitoring
  • Soil quality and contamination management
  • Wildlife and terrestrial monitoring
  • Spill response and waste management
  • Erosion and sediment control
  • Reclamation and closure planning
Environmental Risk Integration into Project Development
Ensure environmental considerations are embedded into project design, construction planning, and operational readiness.
  • Integrating environmental risk mitigation into construction and operational planning
  • Reviewing technical methodologies, monitoring plans, and environmental work programs
  • Supporting permit amendments and environmental approval processes as required
  • Advising senior leadership on environmental risks and compliance priorities
Environmental Team Leadership
Lead and develop a high-performing environmental team responsible for site compliance and monitoring programs.
  • Building and managing a multidisciplinary environmental team
  • Coordinating consultants and contractors supporting environmental programs
  • Ensuring appropriate staffing, technical competencies, and resources are in place
  • Providing mentorship, direction, and performance feedback to team members
Indigenous and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Support positive relationships with Indigenous communities and local stakeholders through respectful engagement and environmental transparency.
  • Participating in engagement meetings and community site visits
  • Supporting environmental discussions with Indigenous communities and regulators
  • Contributing technical information during consultations and regulatory engagement
Requirements:
  • ​​​​​​5–10+ years of progressive experience in environmental management within mining or resource development
  • Strong experience interpreting and applying Canadian environmental and mining regulations
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing environmental compliance and monitoring programs
  • Experience leading environmental teams and coordinating consultants and contractors
  • Experience working in remote or northern environments
  • Ability to manage complex priorities in a dynamic project development environment
  • ​​​​​​Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Planning, or a related discipline
  • Professional designation or eligibility for registration as a Qualified Professional (e.g., R.P.Bio., P.Ag., P.Geo., P.Eng.) considered an asset
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
