Permitting and Engagement Lead - 100% Remote

My client is a Canadian mining company advancing a major gold development project in the Yukon is seeking a Permitting and Engagement Lead. This role sits directly within the regulatory function of a gold development project transitioning from advanced exploration into construction. The Permitting and Engagement Lead is responsible for advancing permitting deliverables while managing day-to-day coordination with regulators, Indigenous Nations, and internal technical teams.

Travel: 10% - 20%

Salary: $90k - $150k DOE, plus health benefits, RRSP matching (Final salary will reflect each candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations, as well as the overall value they bring to the role.)

Role Scope:
​​​​​​The Permitting and Engagement Lead is responsible for advancing project approvals by coordinating permitting deliverables and leading engagement with regulators and Yukon First Nations. Working under the Senior Regulatory Lead, this role ensures that regulatory applications are complete, defensible, and aligned with engagement commitments, while proactively managing information requests, tracking commitments, and identifying risks to approvals. Success in this role means permits move forward efficiently, regulator and stakeholder relationships remain constructive, and there is clear alignment between technical work, engagement outcomes, and regulatory expectations.

Permitting Execution and Coordination:
  • Lead the preparation and advancement of key permits, authorizations, and amendments within the Yukon regulatory framework.
  • Coordinate technical inputs from internal teams and external consultants to support permit applications and regulatory submissions.
  • Ensure all deliverables are complete, consistent, and aligned with regulatory expectations before submission.
  • Track application status, information requests, and approval timelines, ensuring no gaps or missed commitments.
  • Identify risks to approvals early and work with the Senior Regulatory Lead to mitigate them.
Indigenous and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Support and help lead engagement with Yukon First Nations and other stakeholders in alignment with project commitments.
  • Ensure engagement is meaningful, documented, and integrated into permitting deliverables.
  • Track commitments, concerns, and follow-ups arising from engagement activities and ensure they are addressed.
  • Work closely with internal leadership to maintain consistency between regulatory submissions and engagement messaging.
Regulatory Interface and Communications:
  • Act as a key point of contact for day-to-day regulator interactions.
  • Coordinate responses to regulator information requests, ensuring clarity, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Prepare briefing materials, summaries, and supporting documentation for meetings with regulators and stakeholders.
  • Maintain organized records of communications, commitments, and decisions to support auditability and compliance.
Requirements:
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in permitting, regulatory approvals, or environmental planning within mining or major resource projects.
  • Direct, hands-on experience with Yukon regulatory processes.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Yukon First Nations and understanding consultation expectations.
  • Experience preparing or coordinating regulatory applications and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and stakeholders in a structured, disciplined way.
  • Degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, biology, environmental planning, or related field.
  • Eligibility for a professional designation (e.g., RPBio, PAg, PGeo, PEng) is considered an asset.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
