Regional Director

Calgary or Saskatoon, AB

My client, a well-established 100% Canadian employee-owned environmental consulting firm operating across Western Canada, is seeking a Regional Director to lead and grow its Prairie operations. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced environmental consulting professional who combines strong business acumen, operational leadership, technical credibility, and relationship-building skills.

The successful candidate will oversee regional operations across Alberta and Saskatchewan, providing leadership to multidisciplinary environmental teams while driving business growth, operational performance, client retention, and technical excellence.

This role is best suited for someone who thrives in a leadership environment where accountability, mentorship, collaboration, and strategic thinking are equally important as technical understanding and client relationships.

Remote / WFH / Hybrid: Office Based (either Calgary, AB or Saskatoon, SK)

Travel: <5%

Salary: $130k - $150k DOE, plus health benefits, RRSP matching, annual performance & company bonuses and employee share options (The final salary will reflect the qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. Individuals who offer additional strengths or bring exceptional value to the team will be considered for compensation beyond the stated range, as our client recognizes and rewards unique contributions.)

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development:
  • Establish strong credibility and trust with senior technical staff and project teams.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a multidisciplinary environmental consulting team across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture.
  • Improve staff engagement, retention, and professional development within the region.
  • Successfully manage and support approximately 4–6 direct reports and contribute to the oversight of approximately 40 regional staff.
  • Lead regional environmental consulting operations across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
  • Provide strategic direction, mentorship, and performance management to senior technical staff and project leaders.
  • Build a strong regional culture focused on accountability, collaboration, technical excellence, and client service.
  • Support succession planning and team development initiatives.
Business Development & Client Growth:
  • Expand existing client relationships while developing new business opportunities across key sectors including mining, oil & gas, infrastructure, transportation, water management, and renewables.
  • Leverage an established professional network to generate new project opportunities and long-term client partnerships.
  • Contribute directly to regional revenue growth and business development strategy.
  • Increase the firm’s visibility and reputation within Western Canada’s environmental consulting marketplace.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, industry partners, and stakeholders.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities across Western Canada.
  • Participate in proposal development, strategic pursuits, and client engagement activities.
  • Support regional market expansion and long-term business growth.
Operational & Financial Management:
  • Successfully oversee regional financial performance, including revenue generation, profitability, budget management, forecasting, and resource planning.
  • Manage regional financial performance, forecasting, utilization, and profitability.
  • Support operational planning and resource allocation across multiple offices and projects.
  • Monitor project financials and implement strategies to improve efficiency and margins.
  • Improve operational efficiencies and support sustainable regional growth.
Project, Technical & Strategic Oversight:
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to high technical and regulatory standards.
  • Provide senior-level oversight and guidance on complex environmental consulting projects.
  • Oversee complex environmental consulting projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Review project performance, technical quality, deliverables, budgets, and schedules.
  • Support technical teams by understanding project risks, client expectations, and regulatory considerations.
  • Support project managers and technical specialists in resolving challenges and maintaining client satisfaction.
  • Ensure projects meet regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving environmental regulations, market trends, and industry developments across Western Canada.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and long-term regional growth initiatives.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of progressive experience within environmental consulting, natural resources, or related sectors.
  • Strong leadership experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client management, and revenue generation.
  • Experience managing operational and financial performance within a consulting environment.
  • Strong understanding of environmental consulting projects, regulatory processes, and client delivery expectations.
  • Technical background in biology, environmental sciences, ecology, water resources, permitting, reclamation, or related disciplines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior technical professionals, clients, regulators, and executive leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead highly educated technical teams in a collaborative and accountable manner.
  • Existing professional network and industry relationships within Western Canada considered a strong asset.
  • BSc in Biology, Environmental Science, or related discipline required.
  • MSc considered an asset.
  • Professional designation such as RPBio, PBiol, PAg, or equivalent preferred or eligible.
