My client, a 100% Canadian-owned environmental and regulatory advisory firm supporting major resource development projects across Canada, is seeking a
Senior Manager, Mine Closure & Reclamation to lead and expand a specialized closure and reclamation practice focused primarily on mining and large-scale industrial projects.
This is a strategic leadership role suited for a technically strong and commercially minded professional who can lead teams, grow client relationships, guide closure strategy, and help build a nationally recognized reclamation and closure advisory practice.
You will play a critical role in helping resource sector clients manage complex closure obligations, reclamation liabilities, regulatory requirements, and long-term land stewardship strategies across Canada. You will help lead and grow an evolving closure and reclamation practice by building client relationships, mentoring multidisciplinary teams, expanding technical service offerings, and strengthening the firm’s market presence within the mining and industrial sectors. The ideal candidate understands that mine closure is now a critical component of mine planning, ESG performance, regulatory strategy, Indigenous engagement, liability management, and long-term operational risk reduction.

Responsibilities:
Practice Leadership & Growth:
- Lead and grow the Mine Closure & Reclamation practice across Canada
- Develop strategic growth plans and service expansion initiatives
- Help shape the long-term technical and commercial direction of the practice
- Assess existing closure and reclamation service capabilities and identify opportunities for growth and diversification
- Build a scalable and profitable closure and reclamation practice within the mining and industrial sectors
- Contribute strategically to company growth and future leadership planning
- Collaborate closely with senior leadership and multidisciplinary technical teams across the organization
Team Leadership & Mentorship:
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to an existing multidisciplinary closure and reclamation team
- Mentor and strengthen a growing team of reclamation specialists, terrestrial scientists, GIS professionals, and technical consultants
- Support recruitment, team development, and practice expansion initiatives
- Establish credibility internally with technical teams and company leadership
- Promote strong technical standards, quality assurance processes, and collaborative project delivery approaches
Client Advisory & Technical Leadership:
Provide senior-level advisory services related to:
- Mine closure strategy
- Progressive reclamation planning
- Reclamation liability estimation
- Financial assurance and bonding
- Closure risk management
- Closure optimization and liability reduction
- Closure implementation oversight
- Land stewardship and long-term reclamation planning
Project Delivery:
Lead and support:
- Mine closure plans
- Reclamation plans
- Closure cost estimates
- Five-year reclamation plans
- Closure-related permitting and regulatory submissions
- Closure components of environmental assessments
- Closure implementation programs
- Contractor and engineering coordination
- Regulatory liaison and compliance support
- Reclamation research initiatives
- Improvement of technical workflows, quality assurance systems, and closure planning methodologies
Business Development & Market Growth:
- Build and strengthen relationships with mining and industrial sector clients across Canada
- Develop new client relationships and identify emerging market opportunities
- Support proposals, strategic pursuits, and client engagement initiatives
- Contribute to expanding the company’s visibility and credibility within the closure and reclamation market
- Help position the company as a recognized leader in closure strategy and implementation
- Leverage existing industry relationships and networks where applicable
- Become a trusted advisor and recognized industry leader within the mine closure and reclamation sector
Requirements:
Technical & Industry Experience:
- 15+ years of experience within mine closure, reclamation, environmental consulting, mine operations, or related industrial sectors
- Strong understanding of large-scale reclamation and closure planning
- Experience supporting major mining, oil sands, or industrial closure programs
- Experience with closure liability estimation and reclamation costing
- Familiarity with closure-related regulatory frameworks across Canada
- Understanding of closure integration within mine planning and lifecycle management
Leadership & Commercial Capability:
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary technical teams
- Strong client management and advisory skills
- Demonstrated business development success
- Ability to build trust internally and externally
- Strong strategic thinking and organizational leadership skills
- Comfortable operating within a growing and evolving business environment
Professional Qualifications:
- Degree in engineering, environmental science, geoscience, reclamation, or related discipline
- Professional designation preferred (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., RPBio., or equivalent)
- Qualified Professional (QP) sign-off capability
Additional Assets:
- Experience with northern or remote mine closure programs
- Oil sands or large industrial reclamation experience
- Experience supporting NI 43-101 studies or technical reports
- Indigenous engagement experience related to closure or land stewardship
- Familiarity with ESG-aligned remediation and closure initiatives
- Experience acting as an owner’s representative during closure implementation programs
