Water Quality Modelling Specialist

Canada 100% Remote, BC
We are seeking a results-driven Water Quality Modelling Specialist who thrives on solving complex water-related challenges through innovative modeling and data-driven approaches. In this role, your success will be measured by your ability to develop, implement, and optimize water models that deliver impactful solutions for clients and stakeholders. This opportunity is with a Canadian-owned and operated environmental consultancy committed to excellence in water resource management.

Remote / WFH / Hybrid: 100% Remote anywhere in Canada

Salary: $85k - $110k CAD, with benefits, RRSP matching, annual bonus (The final salary will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations. Candidates who exceed these requirements or bring additional value to the team may receive a salary outside the specified range.)

Travel: Open to travel within the US and Canada but not extensive <5%

Key Performance Objectives:

  1. Develop Robust Water Models

    • Deliver high-quality hydrological and water quality models (e.g., GoldSim, HEC-RAS, or similar platforms) that meet client and project needs within specified timelines.
    • Create dynamic, user-friendly models capable of simulating complex systems, integrating real-time or historical data as appropriate.
  2. Support Strategic Decision-Making

    • Provide actionable insights by analyzing model outputs to support decision-making for environmental impact assessments, water balance studies, permitting, and operational optimization.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure models align with project objectives, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
  3. Optimize Model Efficiency

    • Continuously enhance modeling workflows to improve accuracy, reduce run times, and increase scalability for future applications.
    • Develop tools or scripts (e.g., using Python, R, or VBA) to automate repetitive tasks and streamline data processing.
  4. Drive Stakeholder Engagement

    • Clearly communicate model design, assumptions, and results to non-technical stakeholders, including clients, regulators, and Indigenous communities.
    • Address feedback constructively and adapt models to incorporate new insights or changing project conditions.
  5. Deliver on Project Commitments

    • Meet project deadlines and budgets by maintaining strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Proactively manage risks and resolve technical challenges to keep projects on track.
  6. Advance Innovation and Knowledge

    • Contribute to the development of innovative water modeling methodologies that set industry benchmarks.
    • Share your expertise by mentoring team members, presenting at conferences, or authoring technical publications.
  7. Foster Sustainability and Compliance

    • Ensure all models and related recommendations prioritize sustainability and comply with local, provincial, and federal environmental regulations.
    • Integrate climate change scenarios, water resource sustainability, and ecosystem health considerations into modeling outputs.
