Senior Human Environment Lead

100% REMOTE - Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Fort St John, etc, BC

Remote / WFH / Hybrid: 100% Remote anywhere in British Columbia

Travel: Minimal

Salary: $120k - $150k , plus health benefits, RRSP matching, annual bonuses (The final salary will reflect the qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. Individuals who offer additional strengths or bring exceptional value to the team will be considered for compensation beyond the stated range, as our client recognizes and rewards unique contributions.)

As the Senior Human Environment Lead, you will be the driving force behind meaningful Indigenous engagement and socio-economic assessments for some of Canada’s most significant resource development projects.
You’ll lead strategy, shape best practices, and deliver measurable results that strengthen relationships, advance reconciliation, and align environmental performance with community well-being.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver engagement strategies that meet or exceed regulatory expectations under provincial, federal, and territorial frameworks.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams through socio-economic and community-based studies, ensuring findings are robust, culturally informed, and defensible.
  • Earn the trust of Indigenous communities and project stakeholders through transparent communication and culturally safe engagement.
  • Advise clients strategically on UNDRIP alignment, Duty to Consult, and effective pathways to regulatory approvals.
  • Mentor and empower intermediate and junior team members, building internal capacity and fostering collaboration.
  • Deliver projects on schedule and within budget, maintaining excellence in quality, integrity, and relationship management.
  • Identify new opportunities that expand the Human Environment practice and contribute to business growth.

About You

  • 10+ years’ experience in Indigenous engagement, socio-cultural or socio-economic impact assessment, and regulatory strategy.
  • Proven leadership within federal and/or provincial environmental assessment frameworks.
  • Deep sector experience in mining, energy, or natural resources.
  • Degree in Environmental Studies, Geography, Sociology, Indigenous Studies, or a related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • Strong understanding of traditional land use, cultural heritage, Indigenous Knowledge systems, and reconciliation frameworks (UNDRIP, TRC Calls to Action, Duty to Consult).
  • Skilled communicator and facilitator who can bridge technical, social, and cultural perspectives.
  • Experience mentoring teams and collaborating with multi-disciplinary experts.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of GIS, qualitative analysis, or ESG reporting tools is an asset.
  • French or Indigenous language fluency is an advantage.
